RCS 1016 (T3) vs. Zillion SV G1 spool

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

RCS 1016 (T3) vs. Zillion SV G1 spool

Postby Big-Bass » Tue Feb 06, 2018 8:53 am

Looking to drop either in an SV103 and am looking for which one to order for better performance. Has anyone used one/both to compare over the stock spool? Thanks!

The SV G1 Zillion SV TW spool is bad... Just put on in my SS/SV and am very happy. Still kinda wish I had bought an SV103 and just add the same spool to it and used the stock SV103 spool for my SS/SV.

Never tried the RCS 1016 though...

How do you like that Zillion G1 spool in your SSSV?

Very much. I never disliked the original SS/SV spool, was fine for tossing small lures a fair distance. Problem is my SS/SV is on my 7'Medium cranking rod so I needed much more distance for DT6 style cranks and jerkbaits. The G1 Zillion SV TW spool fixed that for sure. Probably get 90% the performance of my Zillion SV TW reels from the SS/SV now, might be closer than that even. Just overall better spool, thing is for me if I want that ultimate control backlash free feel of the stock SS/SV spool, I just turn the dial up...

I picked up a 1016 spool for my SV103 but haven't used it yet. Maybe I load it up and do a test this weekend. Of course I've been wondering if I should have gotten the G1....

I've used the RCS1016 spool in the SV103 and it's fast. I feel like I need too much spool tension to keep it under control. I have a few G1 Zillion spools but haven't tried them in the SV103 yet.

First of all, you are talking two differently peforming spool. SV Spools give you more control and braking power which is very similar to the TDX 100/103 HSDF. But the TDX has a fixed inductor vs the SV's inductor moves.

RCS 1016 Spool is a very fast spool. And very little braking power. You will need more thumbing prowess and or knob tension. RCS 1016 reminds me of the TDZ R+ spool which is found on the Steez 103SHA.

Two completely different spools for different performing reasons. No matter what reels you put these spools in, the performance of each spool should be similar to their respective designed applications - SV will peform like SV. RCS 1016 will perform like normal Mag-Z/Mag-V spools.

Now if you convert that RCS 1016 Spools to SV, thats another story in itself. :big grin:

the 1016 casts further. the g1 has a better control (that is not to say the 1016 don't have good control), can cast lighter lures and is much better for skipping.

How much further are we talking??? The G1 spool I have will absolutely DUMP line. Never directly compared to a 1016 RCS, but I know it will cast. At first I thought a Chronarch MGL had the edge, but I use my Zillions for such light lures it was hard to know.

Now with the G1 SV TW spool in my SS/SV (for medium sized cranks) I can really use that distance.

I didn't measure but its nothing you should care about, especially if you're fishing from a boat. From the bank, the distance from the 1016 is pretty good.

Only with baits over a half ounce and a controlled thumb. My experience anyways

I felt like the only reel a controlled thumb was needed is the OG steez because of the weaker magnets. Ryoga, T3's TDZ's felt like the spool had excellent control. But i mostly use mines with braid ranging from 10-50lb. I prefer the zpi rc spools for fluoro.
