Any non magnesium td-z/x models?
Any non magnesium td-z/x models?
Hello!
My question is as stated in the title...
I`m fishing mainly saltwater, and want a daiwa with the old style
oval lineguide, and 34mm spool.
Larsey.

I believe the closest would be the original style Zillions but they have the bigger sized spool than the TD-Z’s though...

SV103H or SV103XS reels...

Correct. Only thing on the same frame style thats saltwater safe and has a 34mm spool. The gear side plate is different between a Zillion and TD-Z though so they arent exact in hand.Big-Bass wrote:SV103H or SV103XS reels...

Actually, I have swapped a 100M sideplate and OG Zillion sideplate between reels and both reels worked fine. And you can swap the magnet guts from a TDZ 103 sideplate onto a Zillion sideplate and it will fit back on the TDZ 103. Not sure about the SV103, but I was under the impression that overall outer dimensions were exactly the same as the OG Zillion.....Teal101 wrote:Correct. Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
Re: Any non magnesium td-z/x models?
OK.
Intresting that it is possible to swap magnet brake parts!
I have been thinking about the sv103, but i believe this has magnet brake
for sv spool, and therefore a very strong magnetic field...
I want a weaker mag brake profile, so i can use much more of the scale for
fine tuning!

The TDZ 100M is discontinued and getting hard to find. I dont think Daiwa supports the platform anymore, so parts will likely be difficult to source. I actually think I still have a magnet assembly from a 100M in my parts stash.

Found both the 100M and big bait special listed on plat.
The big bait special maybe have even weaker magnetic profile
due to fixed conductor?

The SV103 uses a 34mm spool so you have a ton of options for a less braked spool. The inductor on the 103 spool is longer than a lot of other sv spools. That’s what makes the reel heavily braked. It’s a different reel with the zillion sv spool, or a Steez sv 105 spool. You could use an R+ spool or 1016 if you wanted distance.

Re: Any non magnesium td-z/x models?
Gear side or palm side? Palm side is identical and swaps without issue. A Zillion gear side plate will not fit a 34mm TD-Z frame. Alignment pins and screw hole positions are different. I havent tried it with a 100M. The SV103 palm side plate will swap with the above mentioned as well. I believe the SV103 gear side plate would swap with a Zillion sideplate, havent tried it though.hoohoorjoo wrote:Actually, I have swapped a 100M sideplate and OG Zillion sideplate between reels and both reels worked fine. Soory, I meant the palm side plate. Gear side is a no-go between the TDZ and OG Zillion, as the main gear(and gear box) is larger on the Zillion.

i would definitely suggest the 1016 spool in the sv103h or xs, it’s like a different animal

Re: Any non magnesium td-z/x models?
Today i have a zillion sv tw with the g1 1012 spool,
and i think the mag profile is too strong on this reel.
It goes from too little brake on 2, to too much on 3
I also have an alpha sv, and with this i have much more
adjustability, i use mag settings around half way up the scale.
Thats why i want weaker magnets, the conductor size is not enough
to reduse the mag profile as much as i want.
