May have taken the big bearing of the top on the AR bearing the Chronarch MGL has. I was surprised to learn it is the same bearing as the pinion bearing.

I’m hoping this frame design and philosophy makes it way into a magnesium reel sometime in the future.

I would say yes but it’s not really a big deal, even the shimano conquest has a plastic idle gear. It's not under any real stress so it will take forever to wear out.

Its not the idle gears that I have a problem with, its the wormshaft and pawl.

The wormshaft and pawl are metal on the Bantam.

They are metal on the Chronarch MGL too right? What is life? Why are we here? Now I am questioning everything...

Are they both metal on the CH MGL?, But then again, we are talking about a reel that is composite. Maybe you dont understand what we do down here. Lol

Don't know, don't plan to disassemble mine, think the pawl and worm gear are both metal though actually, think the Ci4+ Chronarch was too.

I just got a Chronarch D7 and a Core 100 in very good condition, since I didn't like anything after the E series. Maybe this is the reel to bring my attention back to Shimano reels. After 3 curado E's (50, 200 and 300) I got at the time of their launching, never got anything new from shimano, just playing with some Quantums and Revos and not disapointed.

The levelwind gear is almost always plastic, at least on one side. This is so you can't pinch your finger in between the frame and the the levelwind and not be able to force it back. It is a safey feature that most manufacturers have incorporated since the late 80's-early 90's. I did that once with an old Abu 4600CB back in the 80's. Both gears were brass on that one, so I tore the skin below my left index fingernail a little in order to get it out. I was deep cranking with the rod straight down, all the way in the water and my finger was wrapped around the front edge of the reel, right at the levelwind. That hurt!
