Won't 10XD type baits destroy those gears? I assumed a beefier gear set was required. I haven't really found a tank of a reel, with high line capacity, smooth retrieve, and not overly heavy. I'm going to have to use my winch for now. Does the job just not as fun. I was considering using my Met but I think it'll burn out the gears as well. Plus I'd like to get into that 5 speed area.

Unless you engage the gears in the middle of the cast (been there done that) I haven't had issues with larger cranks and aluminum gears. I think punching mats with the drag locked down is harder on gears then cranking deep cranks is. But line capacity may become a issue with a 2oz bait.

I use a Tranx 300 with a power handle for the deep divers.

I have had good success with old Shimano E5 and even the curado I in the 5.5 gear ratio. They can be had for dirt cheap.

I mean, sure they made an E5 in the 301 size...but in the infinitely more popular 201 size, no E5 to be found (or made).

I use a Calcutta Conquest with 12lb test line.

I use a CQ100 for anything between S cranks and Deep X 150's and a CQ200 for the Deep X 300/Deep six type baits. I can't complain about either reel for the applications I bought them for.

There was a Chronarch 201E5, which is a 5.5:1, that works perfectly for deep cranks. I have a pair of these, and a set of the gears in a Citica and they are great cranking reels. The E6 has also worked great for deep cranks when I need a little more speed.

I second this reel, cant beat it. the 200d series is also a good option if you prefer a bigger size reel.
