The downfall to some of the Lews reels is the Aluminum gears. Anybody tried swapping the aluminum gears with the brass gears from the Super Duty reels? If the LFS reels are the same in aspect, it should work. The Tournament Pro G is a killer reels, but for down here, I need the solidity of the brass gears to horse fish from heavy cover. Id like to get a 7.5 or even an 8.1 gear into an Pro G.

Don't blame you, I owned a BB1 PRO for a while before I sold it, and it had brass. Was very smooth for only have single support on the pinion and single bearing support (plus anti reverse) on the main gear. I haven't personally owned any of the newer LFS or SLP sized lightweight reels but I have used a few friend's and along with my experience they report that they lose some fluidity after a season or a few big catches/rougher fishing. One friend reported the new Custom MSB (white one with Winn grips) felt a good bit different after cranking 6/8XDS for a couple days, but was helped by a good cleaning/grease.

I'm not sure which all Lew's are aluminum geared and which are brass, but I would figure at least some have to be interchangeable.

Have you called Lew's, and asked them?

Honestly, not yet. Sometimes I feel that I know more about the internals of the reels construction better than the customer service people. But, they have always been very helpful when explaining why I needed certain parts for some reels when doing repairs on customers reels. Knowing what I know of the new LFS series, they are all cut from the same mold with small parts materials being of different made materials. So. Im sure that the SD gears will swap with the Pro G as they basically are the same style and ratios, just different materials. I was just curious if anyone here has done it, even though Lews isnt exactly TT worthy of tuning.

I've always had good luck talking to the service people on their website.

TT worthy is very subjective. If a company makes a fantastic reel, and it's not that expensive, I think that truly makes it TT worthy.
