quick help with Metanium

I'm taking apart my current model metanium and wondering how to remove the level wind protector? I don't want to snap it. Pulling straight out doesn't seem to do it as there are wide plastic flanges that fit snug into the reel frame. I am referring to the part which covers the worm gear. Thanks.

Its a royal pain in the butt, but it comes out when you slant it at the right angle.
