2018 shimano leaks

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

So what's the difference between the 2018 300/400 conquest vs the 2015?

I just posted Stella FJ and Bantam MGL in the Shimano forum. I will post new products later as they are launched.

I have a 2015 version of the 301 reel on its way and expect external cast/svs control, which the 2018 seems to lack?

So is the Bantam MGL spool like that of the Chronarch MGL? Initial reports listed it as being slightly bigger and deeper...

MGL is Magnumlite. Lightweight spool for reduced start up inertia. The spool diameters may have base sizes like 30, 32, 34mm but they will vary slightly from reel to reel. The spool size is close, but not exactly the same. 150 sizing is a standardized line capacity for our reels now. Any 150 size reel will hold the same amount of line no matter what the physical size of the spool is.

A smaller diameter spool will be best for lighter baits. A shallow spool also helps by moving most of the weight to the outer portion of the spool. BFS reels for example, do not have a number for spool size assigned (30, 50 etc) because it is a dedicated application reel. Typically they are really shallow because the reels are used to fish really small ponds or canals with light line and small lures. This is because the water is highly pressured by anglers.

Got it, I know that I have extensively pushed my Chronarch MGL as low as a 7' Medium rod can go, and it has proved itself very strong. I can easily fish smaller shaky heads with a decent weighted worm and throw much more finesse oriented lures than one would think w/ 12lb fluoro. I originally planned to move my Chronarch MGL to a MH and put a 2nd Zillion SV on my 2 Medium rods, but the Chronarch is staying... permanently.
Either way I am very excited for this Bantam reel, but still hoping a refreshed 70 comes out.

Also were you and any of the other Shimano team surprised to see Daiwa come out with their own micro-toothed gears (new Ryoga coming uses "hyper mesh gearing")??? Funny some called micro module a gimmick...

Bantam, is the Antares DC MD coming to the US or is it strictly going to be JDM at this time?

Kinda like an SV103 in that tough rugged factor (maybe more so because of the solid non-sideplate aluminum frame), keeps the lightweight MGL spool, Micro Mod for even more durability, hopefully tougher paint finish that a Metanium, yeah this one is going to be a winner.

I mentioned before, always love the idea of a tough. brute of a reel that can still toss finesse. I basically use my Zillion SV TW's in that spirit, they just aren't the most refined reels. If this Bantam can toss like the Chronarch MGL I've already got a rod/line picked out for it and know exactly the techniques planned to use it with. Really hoping they are available US before summer starts...

Is it just me or does the bantam look like it has an unpainted aluminum finish?

Nobody wants to answer my question on it either, as if its an EI treatment or an actual painted surface?
