Abu is complete garbage compared to Daiwa and Shimano

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I hear good things about them but some complain about the hollow feeling. Still wanna try one though. A certain youtuber had it out casting other similarly priced reels......

I avoided baitcast reels for about a decade after having a nighmare of a time as a kid trying to use a cheap baitcaster that wouldn't cast without backlashing. Then I tried a Revo MGX to try them again, it was a very nice reel, but then I got a Daiwa PX type R and it made the Revo MGX feel like a kids toy in comparison.

Lower end Abu may be comparable to lower end Daiwa / Shimano but at the high end premium level the Daiwa / Shimano reels just seem to be built with higher quality and tighter tolorances. However the Morrum is the one exception, I have a Morrum and its just as solid and smooth as any Daiwa / Shimano top end reel.

I would say that Abu is # 3 behind the other two brands....or Abu could have slipped to 4 since Lew’s has come up in recent years.

The TWS and SV spool have made Daiwa # 1. The TWS is great reel engineering.

I love my Daiwa's, but if one technology had to go, I would let them dump TWS way before SV. Glad we have both, but LOVE SV, TWS is just cool to me. TWS is like Lamborghini doors, SV is like a super high tech variable valve timing direct injection V10 engine.

I don't know if it's fair to call abu reels complete garbage, but the newer stuff daiwa and Shimano have released the last few years makes any of the revos or orras feel like cheaper bargain reels.

If I read the OP's post correctly, he stated Abus were garbage in the title just to get your attention. The post itself said they felt cheaper than Shimano or Daiwa, but didn't call them garbage. I've used an STX Gen1 quite a bit and feel it is a fine reel. Many thought the Gen2 Premier was the best reel in its price range when it came out. Can't offer an opinion on that yet as I only had mine out last weekend for a bit and one other time for a few minutes. Never used a Gen3 because they didn't get all that many good reviews when they came out. I get the impression from what I have read about the Gen4 reels that Abu has improved the quality of them. Whether or not they are up to the Gen2 standard is still up for discussion.

The TWS doesn't make any difference at all.
Compared on both reels I own - Steez Limited SV and Steez TW SV (lines I used, braid up to 30lb, fluoro from 6 to 14lb).
I don't care what Daiwa says about TWS, they never proved it.

P.S. The TWS might be better with mono and fluoro lines over 20lbs diameter.

I hate the TWS system. Aint nothing to write home about unless you use 20lb mono. Rather have the TD Zillion levelwind guide.
