Higher end BFSish reel: Scorpion 70 BFS, Aldebaran 50, SS SV105, or ??

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

well, i ordered a SV105. i debated the gear ratios. REally wanted like a 6.3, but with the short handle, i went with the 7.2. Is there a 6.? gear set that will fit?

probably cheapest way to get into this from what im reading. take your 50e stick a shallow spool and hedgehog air bearings in it. look for a used or new phenix recon, recon 2, elite...682 to put your reel on and go have fun. should still be in the $300 ball park, maybe a little more if you go with a new rod.

Idk about the 6 gears. The faster gears is nice because the lures that are finesse have little resistance so power isn't needed.

The SV105 is a little reel, I think the IPT is only 29", so its not overly fast for a 7 speed. I use mine occasionally for shad raps and light resistance baits. Works great for jerkbaits, small/medium squarebills, small traps, etc.
