Higher end BFSish reel: Scorpion 70 BFS, Aldebaran 50, SS SV105, or ??
Re: Higher end BFSish reel: Scorpion 70 BFS, Aldebaran 50, SS SV105, or ??
well, i ordered a SV105. i debated the gear ratios. REally wanted like a 6.3, but with the short handle, i went with the 7.2. Is there a 6.? gear set that will fit?

probably cheapest way to get into this from what im reading. take your 50e stick a shallow spool and hedgehog air bearings in it. look for a used or new phenix recon, recon 2, elite...682 to put your reel on and go have fun. should still be in the $300 ball park, maybe a little more if you go with a new rod.

Idk about the 6 gears. The faster gears is nice because the lures that are finesse have little resistance so power isn't needed.nikbrewer wrote:well, i ordered a SV105. i debated the gear ratios. The SV105 is a little reel, I think the IPT is only 29", so its not overly fast for a 7 speed. I use mine occasionally for shad raps and light resistance baits. Works great for jerkbaits, small/medium squarebills, small traps, etc.

6.8 gears will fit but its so close to the 7.2 that id leave as is.
