Sweet spot is 3/8 or heavier. Any lower and youll see yourself backlashing or having hard times. Definitely not a finesse reel

How's it compare to the previous model in terms of performance and ergonomics?WhatsUnderTheWater wrote:Sweet spot is 3/5 or heavier. Any lower and youll see yourself backlashing or having hard times. Definitely not a finesse reel

Thanks! I'm a bit confused It's a salted version of Antares DC,and AntDC comfortable from1/4.I have CC201DC and Scorp17DC,and 1/4 for both is not bad...WhatsUnderTheWater wrote:Sweet spot is 3/5 or heavier. Re: 17 Excence DC
I do NOT own the Current Exscence DC but I do have two of the prior models based off the Core 100/Chronarch D frame. I can cast down to 3/8 with them but they really get doing at 1/2 oz or more. I would have a hard time believing the new model would require a baits of 3/5 oz to be able to cast. In a video on YouTube there is a gentlemen tossing a weightless senko (approx 3/8 oz with bait and hook) on the Antares DC. If these reels are similar I would venture to guess one could throw lighter than 3/5 oz on it. I have never fished a 200 sized Shimano or smaller reel that needed a bait heavier than 3/8 oz to get acceptable distance. Who knows, maybe the newest Exscence DC is the exception but I would be surprised.
Note: found a 2017 Exscence DC video with a guy using what appears to be a fairly light action rod, and sort of under hand flip style casting a smaller soft minnow bait and jig head if I am seeing it right. I would venture to guess it is not over 3/8 oz and if it is it would not be by much. Perhaps like anything else, the new 2017 models ability to cast lighter baits than 3/5 oz would be highly influenced by the rod and the line chosen as well.

Apparently the new Exsence DC can handle light baits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiX01q5dSHI

Re: 17 Excence DC
You suppose to use lighter lures on Exsence DC 2017, from 1/4Oz.
Look up a table with reel settings in that link below.

Re: 17 Excence DC
Hey sorry for the later reply and wrong info. I meant to write 3/8 not 3/5. Performance wise, its similar to antares with a little less breaking(PE mode). You will find urself thumbing more than antares honestly. When using fluro, this and antares has same performance. Cast like a dream, and a mile away. Ergonomics, exactly the same as antares but different color. About size 150?bassbassontherange wrote:How's it compare to the previous model in terms of performance and ergonomics?WhatsUnderTheWater wrote:Sweet spot is 3/5 or heavier. Sorry my bad, i meant to write 3/8 not 3/5. i dont have the required tools to weight my spool so i cant tell sorry. but it feels a bit heavier than the antares spool.fffishing wrote:Thanks! Sure you can cast 1/4, but sweet spot is definitely 3/8. Less backlash, and cast like a rocket.
