Daiwa SS SV 105XH

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa SS SV 105XH

Post by Josh-G » Tue Jun 27, 2017 8:58 am

I´m interested in the SS SV 105XH. After searching the forum I´m a little confused. I always thought the SS SV (all models) has the body of the Steez SV (besides Zaion handleside-plate) and that all parts incl. spools were interchangeable. And that the differnce between the 103 and 105 models is just gear ratio and spool capacity.
Somewhere here I read that the 105 has a larger body. Is that true? I also heard that the Steez spools fit only in the 103s :-k What spools are compatible with the 105?

Best Regards

I assume the 105 spools are compatible. The only difference in the ss/sv and ss/sv105 is that the 105 is slightly modified to fit the smaller spool, the frame and all else are the same. The race where the spool fits into the reel is the only difference to my knowledge.

Thanks for your feedback :)
But when I look at those DIY-spools for the Steez I see that they fit in the Steez 100/103/105 and SS SV 103.

So I assume that the 105 Steez-spool is the normal Steez size whilst the SS SV 105 spool is different. I was planning on putting one of the DIY in the SS SV 105XH.

Maybe someone can confirm or correct that?

Bodies are the same on the ss sv series. If you want to run a bfs ss sv why not go for the ss air?

I would/will mostly fish the 105 spool. But the DIY is a nice option for UL applications.
It´s the fast retrieve of the 105XH combined with enough line cap. that attracts me. Because of that the SS Air is not in the game. I also have an Alphas Air which I´m totally happy with ;)
So bottomline is: Only SS SV 105XH and SS Air spools are interchangeable, right? Nothing else without modifications.

No the ss sv has the same spool as the steez and t3 which are 34mm spools. The ss air has a 32mm spool which will fit in the ss sv but there will be a gap between the spool and frame. The ss sv spool will not fit the ss air as the frame is only cut for the 32mm spool.
