Re: Whats your smoothest reel
Smoothest under load is a LIN 10, other reels that are in a tie feeling buttery smooth as possible are a Monoblock, newer Antares AR, PX type R, TD Ito supertuned with brass gears.
Re: Whats your smoothest reel
Personally, which ever reel has no gear (handle) play is the smoothest and highest quality reel. As such, within the reel I have tried and own, the new Steez A TWS is the smoothest reel I've ever tried. Next is the Antares DC 16 which has minimum gear play.

Smoothest under load? Tranx 500 with jigging handle upgrade
Though the new Ocea is budda
I serviced one of my steez sv tws reels. And while I didn't originally feel it was the butteryest reel. After I played around a bit
It now has a feeling of nonthingness no different than the antares.
Spinners,
Stella Sw, FI, And saltiga
Out of the big low profile reels I have. Toro beast, Komodo SS, Lexa HD, tranx 400
The tranx wins in a no comparison land slide.

Nice.
Does it come in two different handle versions?

It claims to be micro module.

BUt it looks like it''s gear is cut the same as the Tranx 3/400
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv4pa9DQ7JE&t=31s
I will say though...THe gear teeth are small...when compared to an abu. But micro module gears on other shimanos are SUPER TINY...
Strange they wouldn't say the Tranx is micro module...As it'd be another "premium" thingy to add to the marketing
It does have a clicky drag...which I would love to have on the 400 and 500
also looks like the pinion on the grappler is brass while the tranx is brass sleeved over stainless
No mention of the sealing which makes the tranx such an innovative product.
Looks like the grappler could be the nexg gen Curado 300

Re: Whats your smoothest reel
I think shimano has 2 levels of micro gears, the ones on their super high end reels like antares and conquest with the super tiny teeth, then there's the ones on the metanium/chronarch/engetsu, etc... and below that have bigger teeth but still quite small, then the regular shimano gears which the teeth appear to be smaller than other manufacturersScoobyDoo wrote:Strange,BRONZEBACK32 wrote:Nice.

Re: Whats your smoothest reel
Now have to add the Steez A, just as smooth as the Conquest under load and cranking (at least initially, let's see how the alloy gears hold up though)Strewth wrote:For straight cranking, the 15 Conquest 100HG, but only just in front of the Calais 100A and a highly tuned Millionaire CV-X 103A (with extra bearings, TDZ Gigas spool and PX Type-R 6.8 Gear Set). Under heavy load from a big fish, it is the Conquest by quite a margin (this is when the micro gears really shine).
For spinning, my Stellas (both the 2000 and 4000XG).
Re: Whats your smoothest reel
Saltiga Expedition is smoother than any Stella i ever held. You guys don't know what smooth is till you get your hands on one

Re: Whats your smoothest reel
I was immediately impressed with how smooth my Alphas ito 103 Ai was when I bought it. As slick as snot on ice. I couldn't say if it was still the smoothest. Mr. Shields as tuned several reels for me. For some reason I've not paid attention to how smooth each of my reels are. Probably because they are smooth enough to avoid noticing otherwise.
Besides....beyond a certain point I am doubtful I have the ability to notice a minute difference.
