Matching a rod to my Conquest50

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Matching a rod to my Conquest50

Post by LgMouthGambler » Tue Jun 06, 2017 12:55 pm

Im having quite the dilemma, and it almost made me wanna sell my Conquest50. I figure, let me ask the TT crew. Since this reel is very small, and to me palms quite weird, Im having trouble finding the right rod for it. Here is what I want to do with the reel. Spooling it with 10lb mono to use for poppers, plugs, spooks, and occasional "wake" type baits with treble hooks. I have my PX68R on a 13 Defy 6'7 M F rod, and have been using that for what I want to use the CQ50 for because I cant find a good rod that feels right. The PX was originally for UL/Finesse stuff, but I wont get into that right now.

So, what yall got yours on, and what ya using it for?

I'm paring a CQ51 on my new Ultima 174MH-G (swimbait/cranking rod). I think, it would be a perfect match.

I think you should try out different kinds of reel seat design first.
See if it helps.

I know, i cant bring myself to sell such a quality reel that took me 3 years to find at the price and condition. I have a 6'8 Crucial MH F that I have a Aldebaran MG7 on. Maybe I should put the reel on it to try the seat out. Then I could order a M F version.

I have a Conquest 51 with a 90mm gold Avail handle, Avail Conquest gold swept star, and original Daiwa cork knobs on an NRX 842 MBR and thoroughly enjoy the combo.

I played around with the reel last night on the Defy, a Dobyns, Crucial, and a few Lee Smith Customs. I found the Lee Smith Custom 2pc I have that has the Fuji 2 reel seat seemed to hold my hand right where it needs to be with the reel. So now the search to find a rod that has that reel seat in the right action Im looking for to fit the Conquest. Its a good thing Im gonna take all my reels to Guntersville with me in October. Looks like a nice trip to Boaz will do me good to see the boys at The Tackle Trap and play with some rods. :D

I just got my conquest 50DC in the mail on Monday (pretty sure I got the last one from Japan tackle_. First, amazing reel, already my favorite reel I own. Anyway, I was intending on putting it on an 842mbr glx, then I fished it yesterday on an 852 NRX and fell in love with the combo for fishing topwater and spy baits. I think ill be buying a second 852c NRX for my conquest cause that is a seriously amazing combo
