Team Daiwa TD-Z 103H/105H (20th Anniversary Edition)

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Team Daiwa TD-Z 103H/105H (20th Anniversary Edition)

Post by Big-Bass » Mon May 08, 2017 10:00 pm

Now that I have your attention... :D

Wouldn't it be cool for Daiwa to offer a 20th Anniversary Edition TD-Z for 2018 (they came out in 1998) with something like the following specs:

103/105 models (RH and LH mirror)
6:1 and 7:1 models
SV spool
Color options (silver w/gold accents, blue)
Mg frame (with hopefully more durable paint)
Something 20th Anniversary related (pin, certificate, etc.)
Anniversary box logo

Would you buy one?

I'd be on board for quite a few. However IF this were to happen, I would love to see the following changes made...

Keep the reel silver for nostalgia. Lose the 80mm straight handle and star, and replace it with a 90mm swept carbon handle, and potentially a long arm drag star. I would love to see it offered in 3 gear ratios. 6.3:1, 7.1:1, 8.1:1 in both RH AND LH. Gold, Red, Black accents. Gotta lose the purple. UTD drag washers would be a must. As for spools, a color matched SV spool would be nice, but for nostalgia purposes, a R+ spool is needed. I agree on the Certificate, Owners Pin, and box like the I'ze PO reels had.

I'd be a player on a set of Lefties and Righties, and maybe one to fish :big grin:

I'd like to see that with the following:

Same Magnesium TD-Z Frame (no TWS)
Magforce 3D (no SV)
G1 Duralumin Spool material
RH and LH 8:1 option
Limited Production
A few color options would be nice, but not a deal breaker
IF they left a straight handle as homage to the original, make it 90mm as on the TD-Z 100m

Oh I agree with the above posts too. I was just trying to imply "original" with fewer mods as an anniversary edition to the original. Yes, no T Wing (was that even a thought haha). An R+ spool would be awesome as would the longer handle (thoughts on cork knobs?). I am a fan of the silver standard with more durable paint. I would also love to see a blue and some other colors but not break into the realm of blending colors too much to look like some Zillion variations. Maybe Daiwa will listen to this post :D =D> and if they do, bring on the reels!

Paint it a better looking silver, make then paint stay stuck to reel and make it less geary feeling. I'd buy that over an sv103.

TD-Z Type R
Gloss Black Paint
Zillion Type R Dragstar
Porting on Top similar to the Type R+ or Zillion Type R or J-Dream
7.1+ Gear Ratio in RH or LH
UTDrag
TDZ Type R+ Spool lightened up a few grams with porting or duralumin material or maybe a shallower version of the new Steez A spool.

I would absolutely buy one just to have a TDZ with 7.1 gears in RH. If they could put Mag-3D in it even better.

Better paint job. Maybe 5 colors that are a nice metal flake. Zion drag stars that are marble to match the paint. Carbon fiber handle. Some really nice special edition cork knobs. A killer spool that hasn't been introduced yet. Some kind of logo on the thumb bar. Crazy design on the brake dial. 6.8 and 7.9 gearing. Clicking drag.

What colors would you pick?

It'd have to be silver. I'm a fan of the heavy flake over light gunmetal/silver base like the SS SV.

2 Spool options like the Hedgehog
Titanium infused frame :big grin:
3D braking system
More drag
Absolutely need a more durable paint job, with multiple chameleon colors like the Ito!
Faster gear ratio options
And a specialized handle like the the Japanese Zillion 50th. I would prefer something very light that has never been used before in any other Daiwa

Man would I be willing to pay some $$$!!!

Red, yellow, green, blue, black. But flake them, maybe with kind of a color changing flake or a hard silver.

I'm with Dave, 7.1:1 brass gears for RH is all it would take to get me to buy.

If I'm dreaming- I'd like to see them do the personal order type system with a gang of colors to choose from, including some ito green, illusion purple & sunburst colors(would be feasible if they charged a bit more for those premium colors).

If I had to pick one color only... probably gloss black. (Or illusion purple).

Some new tuned Type R+ spool and magforce 3D... that's too much awesome to even wrap my head around! :evil22:
