To name a few:Mattpusa wrote:Ok if anyone can answer this.
What does the curado have that the tatula doesn't and vice Versa?
What does the aldebaran have that the steez doesn't and vice Versa?
Completely different brake systems
Different feel. Daiwas have a connected feel. Shimanos have a silky smooth feel.
Steez has a bunch of versions out now (aluminum, SV, SV with T Wing) which will all fish differently
Re: $200 reel vs $400 reel
Man what a loaded question. To me a good percentage says it is in the hands if the angler when it is all said and done. If you have the means I say go for it, within reason of course in being that there's good information to research it when possible, but when it comes down to it pull the trigger and try it out for yourself. To me a lot depends on how well one particular reel is manufactured ss well as consistency. As many stated many of the upgrades include increased bearing counts, possible better quality control and tolerances for overall build. Refinement in overall aesthetic, knobs, handles, star drags the whole gamut. As one mentioned previously collectability, limited are two reasons as well. Hell I take perfectly good reels as is and put ridiculous money into those and that gets spendy so go figure . Fun question

These days a $200 reel gets you pretty close to as good casting and overall fishing performance as a $400 reel. But a high end reel will typically have a little tighter tolerances, more refinement, less plastic type parts. Not catch you any more fish but a little more fun to fish with.

Thanks for all the replies guys
Re: $200 reel vs $400 reel
It really just boil down to personal preference. I fished a tatula ct last year, a smooth reel and would bomb a topwater lure. I ended up selling it. I only keep 10 combos. And there is so many bad azz reels out there, just dont wanna have "ok" reels. Maybe if i had 20 combos, id stay around the $200 price range. I can say that the close to 100 boaters ive fished with, i think ONE boater had '13 metaniums. Mostly lews pros, curados, bps reels, $200 revos are what i see. People just dont realize how small the market is for "high end" rods & reels.

I offer you this analogy, what does a Ford Mustang GT500 have over a ford Mustang V6. It's not just about greaterp Horseower. There is also a level of refinement overall in the functions that make the GT500 a better car. That is also the case with a $400.00 versus a $200.00 reel. both will get you there, but which one feels more refined and delightful to use.

For the most part, the materiel/s being used. You can have two reels both with exact aerospace tolerances, but one is made of cheaper materials.
