I have been running a Met pinion with a K drive gear for some time, super smooth as noted in my previous post. The K pinion is slightly different to the Met pinion. Check with the TT, I think you will find their sets use the Met pinion/K drive gear combination which is a very convenient option.sprogk wrote:Not True. Tackle Trap has supplied me with 8 sets of Curado K gears sets (Main gear & Pinion). Its compatible.Strewth wrote:Only the drive gear is compatible. You must use the Met pinion. Still a great fix to the buzzing gear issue.
The tackle trap changed the first two for me which where XG's & I got them to install 6.2 gears sets.
So now we can change our reels speeds as required when we upgrade to brass.
Cheers

Any Idea when the gear sets for Lefty's will be available?

Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread
a renowned reel repair guy on another board is telling me to have low expectations of this change. He says just because it fits does not mean it will hold up. Would be nice if someone installs this and fishes it hard for 4 months before we all go in on this ide

Does anybody know how much the brass gear weights?

Your choice as to who to believe. For me, I’ll take a set of high quality brass gears any day over an alloy/brass combination. Some of the fish I target are much bigger than LMB, and the K/Met gear set is holding up great.DavidSA wrote:a renowned reel repair guy on another board is telling me to have low expectations of this change. I use 6.2 for sqaure bills & HG for lipless. One reel for both go HG.DavidSA wrote:so is anyone actually using a Met MGL as a crankbait reel that can tell me if you like it and what speed you like. That we can upgrade them to brass is great!!!!
Cranks for me are MOSTLY Lipless cranks and shallow divers like the Lure Jenson Speed trap. I don't throw DD22's often where I fish most but if I do can pull a backup 6:1 ratio reel out of the collection.
Thinking HG speed. Thoughts on that?
Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread
Given brass density is ~8.7, aluminium ~2.7 t/m3, would say probably 18 g.-Boris- wrote:Does anybody know how much the brass gear weights?
Stop worrying about weight and maybe they'll start putting brass gears back in.
Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread
HG seems best. I wish I had gotten the XG sometimes because my 7 speed is plenty powerful. I use it as a semi-finesse reel but have used it for a few cranks (up to 14ft divers, DT14's) and it pulled great. Having a dual supported pinion along with an extra supported bearing on the mainshaft really helps the Chronarch MGL. The Metanium follows suit with an extra bearing so it should have plenty pull in the HG version also.sprogk wrote:I use 6.2 for sqaure bills & HG for lipless. Any update on left hand version gears for the MGL @bronzefly
Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread
When I asked Shimano AU, they said the Curado K lefty gears would be in stock early January. I imagine similar/earlier for the US.
Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread
Anybody have the part number for the Curado K, 201XG drive gear?
Thanks, Kurt

Looking at that schematic I am reminded, once again, at how far baitcasting reels have come, both in quality and function, in the last thirty years. And how computerized machining has made these micro miracles affordable!y2k88 wrote:5727

and don't forget composite science Mark! In 2002 I started to play with higher end baitcasters and "light" was like 7.8oz and most where almost 9oz.
