2016 Steez SV TW spool question.

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

2016 Steez SV TW spool question.

Post by wjgrnp » Mon Aug 29, 2016 6:43 am

Hi
I have recently purchased a H and an SH of the new Steez.
For the fishing that I do I either fish 12lb braid or 30lb braid.
The Spool will hold about 100m of 30lb and I would like a spool that will hold 150m.
I would welcome feed back on the compatibility of the SV 1000 deep spool with the new platform.
Thank you

Are you using it for saltwater? Even then you honestly don't need more than 100 meter with BCs

Thanks IAY
Yes I am fishing in salt and because of rock it is not uncommon to bust off 20 or 30m a couple of times in a session so the extra capacity is an insurance policy.
I don't have a SV 1000 and am assuming it has more capacity than the stock spool if it is fit for purpose.
With my previous Steez reels I could spool 150m without an issue so I suppose I am interested in knowing if I can achieve the same with the new reels all be it with an aftermarket spool.
Any guidance would be appreciated before purchasing the SV 1000 spools and finding they don't work.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure the Steez 103 SV deep spool should fit.

To answer your question, yes the SV1000 spool is compatible. I'm not sure how it will perform given the obvious weight difference, but fitment is not an issue.

Thanks for the replys.
Plat in Japan have indicated that the 103 does not fit.
Looks like the SV 1000 is compatible.
Is it deeper than the stock spool?
Thanks

Interesting. I bet with some shim adjustments the 103 spool would work. The RCS1016 would be a good option for you I think.

Good luck with your search for a spool. Have you thought of using a thinner braid. Big variations in some lines. If you can't find a spool that meets your requirements, this may be an option. Not the TT way I know.

It states right on the Hedgehog Studio website the SV 1000 spool fits the Steez SV TW. The deep version has the same line capacity as the stock spool, approx 100 yards of 14 lb test. I'd be careful anyways. From my experience with SV spools and the various inductor sizes, spools don't always perform well in certain platforms. You may need to go with the T3 1016 spool for additional line capacity. If it fits and performs that is.
