Terrible Chinese knock off reels

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

At those prices, they must be using rejects from other reel manufacturing, and slave labor!
I hate to see us buy them, and support that kind of thing.

 Somehow I doubt paying them more money will get them close to the same quality.

I think with enough money they might be able to get close to lews, abu, 13. Maybe

you got what you paid, even it's made in Japan, $25 still can only get you a garbage reel.

So, do you think those really cheap reels are made in the same factories as the better reels?

I doubt it. These super cheap reels are just badge engineered products from Chinese OEMs. The affordable better reels, such as Lews, are badge engineered products from Korean OEMs. They're both built in China but almost certainly in different factories owned by different companies.

I asked because machining and assembling fishing reels is a specialized process, and I didn't think there would be enough money to be made in a $25 reel to make setting up a factory just for them worth while.

If you can get your machines for cheap (used) and set up some lines that move a lot of units and produce them at a low cost then it's doable. As long as orders keep coming in.

What you say makes sense, but I didn't think there was a volume market out there for this stuff. Of course, what do I know? Hahaha
