Re: Terrible Chinese knock off reels
At least they are trying to make them look halfway decent. Anyone that buys one though is in for some big surprises.
Re: Terrible Chinese knock off reels
I think making a casting reel is not as straight forward as a spinnig reel. If you are into a budget spinning reel, you should only order from Ali as the chinese already make good budget reels.
On the other hand, the casting versions are more difficult. I know that there are a few decent options out there, but also plenty of absolutely terrible ones as well.
My father just ordered this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bluesea ... st=ae803_3
I only handled it in the room, but it looked absolutely terrible. I do not even think it was properly assembled as the brake was so jerky I have never seen anything like that before. The whole reel felt very underwhelming so stay away. There are plenty of variations of this reel out there, I guess they all the same.
What I hear that from around 50 or 60 dollars, you can start finding decent reels. In my country the white Haibo Steed is popular (the red one has terribly implemented magnetic brakes) and I hear the the Tsurinoya XF-50 is also decent. If you are into high-end stuff, you should absolutely stick to the traditional brands though, at least for now. It may change in a few years, who knows.

Been watching youtube about the Kuying Magician, pretty interesting reel if it meets all the claims. I assume it is NO WHERE near a Conquest, just interested in what it actually offers. If they put bearings in proper places, gave it decent tolerances, and a decent spool/brakes it might be alright, at least for Chinese manufactured style.

Probably not the first point but most likely the second.mark poulson wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2016 3:00 amAt those prices, they must be using rejects from other reel manufacturing, and slave labor!
I hate to see us buy them, and support that kind of thing.

Not Nihon or Nippon but Ippon...
Next there'll be a knock-off of that knock-off called the Ip Man.

This is the way.

This is why the big players in the game should give some thought to quality tackle at knock off prices. We know better and might pick something like this just for giggles. Someone new to the sport, doesn't know any better and gets nothing but aggravation for their money.
There are several tackle manufacturers associations. It's never bad business to reach out and educate.
