Hookset hard asf it broke. Impossible.

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

What did you hook into, a VW? That stinks, is it under warranty?

Sad bro, hopefully they cover it. It was a bass. I had to hand wind it in.

There was also a post about a daiwa with zaion material failure.

I hope these are just production defects and not a realibility issue on all reels using composite material for the frames.
I have a rarenium CI4 and im very concerned of composites after seeing these two posts.

Wow, how hard are you setting the hook? I know several people that use these reels for inshore and put some heat on some really big fish(20-60lb cobia, tarpon, jacks, redfish) and haven't had any issues out of any of them. The original CI4 had some flex in the stem, but haven't heard anyone talk about that with the CI4+.

I would contact Shimano. They might give you a break on a replacement, and they might want the broken reel back to see what actually happened.

I had an Abu SX30 that was making a clicky noise in the gear somewhere, downloaded the repair form, sent it in, and about a week later had a brand new reel. I would think Shimano would do the same.

I made the post on the Zaion failure, mine broke as i was reeling in a 2lb trout. That's a crazy picture! I am now convinced these composites are inferior to metal. Carbon frames are light but not built to last, I'll bet they become more brittle overtime.

I got a quote for a new frame from Daiwa, only $16 plus shipping. I'd be curious to know what a new Shimano ci4+ frame will cost?

Shimano ain't covering it. It's gonna cost $25 for the new frame. I know that carbon reinforced plastics are cheaper material to work with but I didn't know it was that cheap.

Why are they not covering it? I hear they have good customer service.
