Daiwa guys, need your help

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa guys, need your help

Post by Dam0007 » Mon May 23, 2016 6:55 am

I plan on going mainly Daiwa and sell of all my Shimanos. Going to post a list of what I need reels for but let me start by asking

Tatula HLC, is this tuned for heavier stuff like how the upcoming Zillion HLC is? I plan on grabbing a Zillion HLC for my C Rig setup but the Tat version doesn't look like a bad idea for my paddle tail setup. Also plan on grabbing a Tat 5.5:1 crazy cranker for my squarebill set up. Well here's the list can't wait to see what you guys recommend! Thanks in advance! BTW I plan on all JDM lefty models. Most of what I want isn't available USDM in lefty or in gear ratios I would want. So all JDM in one swoop the day the Zillion HLC is released.

Casting:
Fury 705CB - Squarebills - Tat 6.3:1
Fury 735C - Frogs - Tat 6.3:1
Fury 795SB - A Rig - Tat HD JDM 6.3:1
Savvy 663 - Flukes - Tat Type R 6.3:1
Champ 684CB - Jerkbaits -
Champ 685CB - Topwater -
Champ 704CB - 4-8ft cranks -
Champ 705CB - 10-18ft cranks -
Champ 702C - 3/16oz Jig -
Champ 703C - 3/8-1/2oz T Rig -
Champ XP734C - SpinnBuzzChat -
ChampX HP703C - 3/8-1/2oz Jig -
ChampX HP743C - Keitechs -
ChampX HP744C - C Rig - Zillion TW HLC
Spinning:
Custom 1 - Shakey Head - Ballistic 2500ex
Custom 2 - Drop Shot - Ballistic 2000ex

My apologies... Smh

The point of this thread is I'm not as familiar as I'd like to be with Daiwa. Plan was to go mostly zillion and a couple Steez/Tats in between. But maybe some of you guys could point me to other models that may be more suitable for said techniques. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

So you are asking for what reel to get for those rods that aren't mated yet? Is there a price point?

Pretty much lol seeing what others recommend. Was thinking staying with the Tat/Zillion platform but seems a lot of guys really like the Alphas, SS, Steez etc over the Tat/Zills...

SS is the best value for money reel there is from Daiwa. I like the Jdream range to balance out heavier rods and then there are always the lightest of Daiwa reels that are currently on the market; the Steez Limited TN or SS Air for light weight rods / setups

Forgot to mention in my initial post that for heavy stuff then look no further than the Z2020, great Frog and Flipping reel.

So as my research continues here's what I'm thinking so far

C Rig - Zillion HLC when it's released
Squarebills - Tatula JDM 5.5:1 'Crazy Cranker'
Keitechs - Tatula HLC 8.1:1
3/8-1/2oz Jigs - Zillion SV 9.1:1

Then maybe (2) Tat CT Type Rs for the 702 and 703 pitching setups to keep costs down.

From what I'm reading the Tat HLC is designed to bomb casts as far as possible but the Zillion HLC adds additional braking for the heavier presentations. Can't find anything to confirm wether or not the Tat HLC adds more breaking or not which I wouldn't want on Keitechs.

The tat probably has a fixed inductor spool, which is fine for long casts with heavy baits, but problematic with pitching and lighter stuff. I.e. no magforce Z.

I have no problem pitching baits of at least a 1/4 and the Tatula is Magfroce z and the inductor rotor does move in and out
