Daiwa Air reels which one ???

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Air reels which one ???

Post by lil_man72 » Mon Apr 11, 2016 5:51 am

T3 Air
SS Air
Alphas air
Which one has the lightest spool?
Which one is the lightest?
Anyone fish all three?

I've only used the SS air for a brief time before I sold it as I was planning on getting the t3 air..
Since then the alphas air has popped up...
So I'm wandering what everyones thoughts are one these air reels. .
Also how do these stock reels stack up to the shimano or megabass offerings

I fished the SS Air and T3 Air. Casting capabilities were close. The T3 Air is super refined and solid. The SS Air sounded more hollow than the T3 Air even though both are made of Zaion. I didn't really try skipping with the SS Air but the T3 Air skips small baits pretty good.

The SS Air is noticeably lighter but both reels are still light.

The only gripe I have with either is the physical, surface area size. They are both very palmable but, I think Daiwa should have made both smaller. Imagine a 50 sized T3 Air with a cute little pop-up hood.

Their specifications can be found in the official website.
The weight of alpha air spool is 9.5-9.6 gram;
SS air and T3 air have the identical spools, whose weight are 9.1-9.2 gram.
If remove the bearing, adaptor and inductor, the spool of SS air and T3 air are 5.6 gram

I have the alphas air. lightweight but works like a monster in my hands. I say this but have not used the other air reels and prob wont need to because im finesse jigging. it's one of my favorite reels atm.

The Alphas Air spool weighs 8.4g with HH Air BFS bearings.

Alphas Air don't have the line limitations of the two other Air models, it can use any line type and dimension and will be much more robust during fishing.
