Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I can't pay any amount of money for a T3 ever again. I am biologically incapable. The T3B ruined the platform for me. At this point I think I am owed money for punitive damages and suffering.

I have the MX, regular, and the Ballistic and I have to say that I like the MX the most. My MX BFS setup with a DIY spool is great. Especially because the prices went down so much for the T3 platform. The Ballistic is really a POS compared to the other T3's.

Is the MX really that much nicer than the Ballistic? The T3B is a nasty reel. I like the flip up hood, spool compatibility and Magforce 3D of the platform. $129 brand new for a T3 MX is tempting if it's not horrid like the T3B.

I had both. Yes, the MX is an entirely different animal. I burned rat-l-traps with the one I had and never had a problem. I kind of miss mine, as it was smooth and tight, so much better than the Ballistic.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Do the higher end T3 variants have any other common issues? They are pretty neat looking reels and would make an interesting classic/older reel for a certain rod...

The T3 SV spool would get the stuck inductor issue like the SV105 spool. I have the T3 like more than my SV105.

The flip up hoods snapped where the retaining pin was located, needed a complete redesign and or pins both sides and or curved plate pins than thin guage wire. The Zaion plastic in that spot wasn't strong enough by any means...

The rubber U shaped piece on the hood is always peeling off. Really annoying if you ask me. instead of properly gluing it to the hood, they're using some cheap double sided tape that loses its stickiness in under half a season.

Airy Red Pixilla would love that matte red!

They have matte pixy spools out too. Sellers seem to have both matte and polished in stock so double check when ordring.

I am looking for a BFS spool for a Daiwa SV103 (I am looking to throw 1/8oz poppers and jerkbaits). Anybody with any experience here?

Thanks!

There are two that will fit the reel. A super shallow spool and shallow spool. They're around $50 on aliexpress and $60 on ebay. They are liked in other 103 reels but I haven't heard any feedback about how they perform in an sv103. They are spools listed as T3/TDZ/Steez compatibility.

EDIT: links

There are other sellers but I use weihai fishing store because he has the largest selection of DIY parts. West door fishing tackle is another good store and has thing weihai does not.
