Tatula Type R Limited Edition??

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Tatula Type R Limited Edition??

Post by willowblade » Sun Oct 18, 2015 12:12 pm

Hey guys,

I see there is a red Tatula Type R reel on eBay that is called limited edition. The reel is red in color and seems to be a custom painted type .R? Any word on this reel guys? Was this the one available for the Facebook contest? The listing says there was only 15 made? It looks like starting price is 200 bones... Is this reel that collectible? Figured you guys would be the ones to ask.

Let me know what you guys think.

This was a special run that Daiwa did I believe last year. To my knowledge, they were giving them away through different contests on their Facebook page. I'm not sure if they were available through other means or not.

I own one and know just a little about them. There were reels that were awarded as prizes in the U.S. and there were also a very limited production run of reels produced in Thailand, not sure how many. The differences that I am aware of between the two reels are that the Thailand reels were available in 3 gear ratios, whereas the U.S. reel were only released in 8.1:1. The Thailand reels were released in red boxes, while the U.S. reels were in black boxes with a red dot on them, the reels also used different knobs on the handle. I did see a picture somewhere during the contest that showed 15 U.S. reels on a table. I don't know if that was all of the reels or just a promotion picture.

The most rare Tatula that I am aware of is a special reel that Daiwa made for Randy Howell when he won the Classic. It was a one off blue reel.

Thanks for the info guys....

I see the bid is still only at $200... Are these reels worth that much as a collectors item? Bidding doesn't seem to be going crazy on it which I thought was kind of unusual.

Let me know your thoughts on what you think this reel is actually worth. If the bidding doesn't go much higher, I may try to snag this one.

Thanks!!

Honestly I don't think there is too much collectors value with this one. A little, but not much. If you like it then it might be worth $200. I doubt you'll be able to hold onto it and sell it for more down the road though.

Its like a limited addition Honda Accord vs a limited edition Porsche. Tatula=Accord.

I think you would buy this reel for personal enjoyment, but not as an investment. Reel has the cool factor. :D
