Daiwa PX Type R

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa PX Type R

Post by rgbtr196le » Fri Aug 07, 2015 12:05 pm

Found an awesome deal on a Daiwa PX Type R and I jumped all over it today. Read alot here about these reels and learned a ton from you all. Should get the reel next week sometime. Im going to use it to throw senkos, flukes and some floating worms. Any suggestions on upgrades to this reel or should I just leave it alone? I just want it to be as good as I can get it....thanks.

OS7 spool bearings will be a good purchase. They are set right out of the box though IMO. I have 2!!

Opinions from those that have both the PX-R and the Alphas SV (JDM). What are differences and which is the better reel?

The faster speed with the SV is a good option to have. The SV only has 2 bearings per knob compared to the R with 4. SV has a total of 7 bearings while the R has 11. The SV holds a bit more line if that's a concern. I think it's 10lb-90yd and the R is 8lb-75yds. I think the pixy is an overall better reel, but it also has more extras, like the extra BB and the carbon fiber handle with corks. The SV can be had for less than $200 and is an absolute steal. I have 6lb FC on my SV and cast Ned rigs a good distance.

-So the in NEW yet unreleased USDM 105SV will be the exact same in BB count? It shows 9...but 2 of those are in the handle? 1 in each handle?

Honestly haven't paid much attention to the USDM SV105, but if it shows 9, there could even be 4 in the handle. I'm sure there is a post on here that says for sure.
