Hey everyone. I am new to the forum but not new to fishing. I fished a lot back in college but mainly with spinning gear due mostly to the fact that I never took the time to try and get to know a baitcaster. Last year I got back into fishing seriously and bout a tatula which I love throwing. The casting with this reel is sp much easier than the cabelas prodigy that I had been fishing from years ago, however I have learned to cast it well also now. With that being said I now want to expand my inventory with some quality setups. I just recently purchased a new curado I and love it. The bait monkey has me again and I can't help but see all the great reviews on the jdm version of the alphas sv105. My question is the reel worth the extra money over the curado i, approx $200 vs $130? Money isn't really an issue but I just wanted everyone elses opinions on the matter.

Well worth the added cost. Osaka Pro Shop has free shipping. Alphas SV is a very nice little reel.

SV 105 is well worth the money IMHO. The only negative thing I can comment on about the reel is the shortness of the handle. Easily fixed with an inexpensive Tatula handle.

Is the Alpha SV inshore safe?

Yup its inshore safe.

Those who've used them, how would you say the Alpha sv would stack up against the Core 50 /Adle 15'

I fish the Alphas SV and 15 Aldebaran side by side. I would say the Alphas holds its own but they are both pretty new. I love both reels and both seem to have the same capabilities with light to medium weight baits. I also have 2 Pixy type Rs which are still hard to put down. Alphas SV has a lot of performance for the cost.

Good news is the Daiwa Alphas casts very well, easy to palm and has smooth drags. The bad news is the line capacity. I should have paid closer attention to this. Don't expect to land anything with shoulders.
I will have to find a replacement spool. Does Daiwa make a deep [er] spool?

If you're talking about a SV spool, I don't think a deep spool is available right now. I'm sure one will become available down the road. I think they recently came out with a deep SV spool for the Steez. In addition, I think they just started offering the SV 105 spools in different colors. Someone might want to confirm this.

I like the alphas better than the scorpion 1000xt. Smoother more solid feeling and casts better. Its a sweet little reel for the cost. I have both the high and low speed versions and love them both

While it is not an SV spool, the spool from a Daiwa Sol will work and meet your greater line requirement.

I just ordered one of these this weekend. Pairing it up with a Dobyns dx703c for weightless senko. I throw it on 16lb sniper, hoping line capacity is ok

I am running 10# on mine. I haven't seemed to have any issues with line capacity, but that is also 10# v's 16#.

OP, if money is not an issue then I'd say definitely get the alphas sv. It's a special reel and casting machine. Very easy to cast without issues even into the wind. I use mine for weightless senkos and it has the "it" factor.

Loving mine. Very versatile reel.
