Reel covers?
I'm needing to buy three neoprene reel covers for lefty low-profile reels (2-51 size, 1- 201 size). I thought I would buy BPS covers, but they get mixed reviews... seems there isn't a convenient slit for line that remains attached to lures. For those who use these covers, is this a valid complaint or do they work OK without a slit. Are there better options available? Thanks

Re: Reel covers?
I just use the Tackle Warehouse covers, just buy a few when ordering baits to get the free shipping at $50. They work great. No slit, but it's not needed. I leave my rods strung up all the time with the covers on.

Re: Reel covers?
These are what I have been using and have no complaints thus far. They have good coverage, but are designed to be used with the rod and reel completely rigged up. Easy to get on and off.

Cabelas reel covers work well, I have them on all my baitcasting reels. They have a metal ring attached to them that you can hook baits onto. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas- ... reel+cover

I can also vouch for the TW covers. Without a doubt the best for the money. All my nicer reels have them and as noted above just mix them in order to get free shipping. Easy on and off and great padding and fit.

Re: Reel covers?
I just cut a slit in the BPS covers and haven't had any problems with them, they do their job of protecting reels in the rod locker. The TW covers are definitely some nice ones. Shimano also makes a very nice cover.

Doesn't the neoprene tear with use when you cut a slit for the line?

Re: Reel covers?
I have 4 BPS covers that I've been using for a few years now and none have torn past where I cut it. Didn't cut the TW or Shimano covers though.OkobojiEagle wrote:JBcrankaddict wrote:I just cut a slit in the BPS covers and haven't had any problems with them, they do their job of protecting reels in the rod locker. Re: Reel covers?
Th TWH covers are decent. I too cut a slit in mine and it's fine. I bought an Opass cover from Ebay a couple of years back and I like that one too although it's not neoprene. It's just thin foam sandwiched between fabric. What I like about it though is that there is a strap that wraps around the handle too, covering the star drag. I had to cut a slit in that one too and I didn't feel like it would stay intact so I fused the edges of the slit w a lighter.
Actually, here goes a thread where we were talking about this a couple of years ago. It's about a Pluton but might still be helpful.

Re: Reel covers?
All of my BPS covers are slit and none tear beyond the cut's I made. Some of those have been in use for 4 or 5 years now, maybe more.
Re: Reel covers?
There is no way that little piece of Velcro could be holding after 5 years!

Re: Reel covers?
Another vote for the TW covers. I just loosen the drag and cc and store the rods rigged. No issues.

Re: Reel covers?
Yup, the TW covers work great, really do. But they are sized for 100 class, not the 50 or 200 you asked about.
Re: Reel covers?
just wrap line backwards around reel and it will lay flat alongside rod ....OkobojiEagle wrote:I'm needing to buy three neoprene reel covers for lefty low-profile reels (2-51 size, 1- 201 size).
