shimano curado 201 E7 still a good reel?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Looking for a combo salt and freshwater reel. How does this one compare to what is currently out there? Anyone have one to sell?

They're very good reels and have the durability/performance you want in a saltwater/freshwater outfit. Don't pay too much for it though. The Curado I is also a great reel and it's likely to be found cheaper

Mine is still going strong after 5 years of heavy use in saltwater with braid. They are very robust casting reels with a nice light spool. Had to replace the gears last year with a new set (from the Chronarch E) to keep it running smooth. Goes great with a set of Hedgehog ZR spool bearings and TSI 321 lube.

I wish I kept the two I sold off a year ago....still have two remaining.

They are really holding up well. I swear they are actually smoother now than when they were new.

The E7 is a great reel.

While mine aren't Curado's, I absolutely love my 4 Citica 201 E's. Durability is fantastic even though I fish them hard. I break them down and service them about twice a year and that's it, never a minutes trouble. Great reels!

They are sweet reels, some of the best around. Hold up a lot better than Diawa zillions that's for sure. Speaking from first hand experience. I would buy it for sure.

Yep. They're a bit wide but VBS is a good, easy to use braking system and the reels cast very well.

x2. I still have three of the Scorpions (Japan model--same thing) and they are dynamite reels. My only gripe is the tiny bit of backplay in the reel, but it's never been an issue.
The other reel I would mention is the TD Zillion, more powerful, hold a little more line, and a more robust frame (heavier though). I too replaced gears in one of my Scorpions...cheap and easy to do though. The Zillions are a little more hearty in my opinion, but heavier too...comes down to preference.

TW has the Zillion on clearance in lefty, and I've seen both the Curado and Zillions for sale on eBay, some still new in box.

Good luck

my curado e7's also have back play in the handle....

bugs me when I'm playing with the reels at home, but of course during use, I don't notice it.

The best curado ever made IMO. It's a very solid reel. A lot of guys in Southern Cali use them in the salt for calico bass. As long as you rinse it off every saltwater trip and oil it up a few times a year. You should be in good shape.

What would be a good market price for these reels used since I doubt there are any new ones lying around?

I just saw some new in box 200's and 50's on eBay last week, for higher than they use to sell for. Mint people are getting between $130-$170. Honestly I would just get a Scorpion 1500xt, it's the same reel, but with all ARB bearings throughout the reel, instead of just a few, and they're still available all over Japan...new ones can be had for around $170.

If anyone has a Curado 201DPV they want to trade for a Curado 201E7, I will gladly trade both of my E7's I have available.
