Shimano Stella help?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Shimano Stella help?

Post by RMCatchNrelease » Wed Feb 04, 2015 5:28 pm

Recently purchased a used JDM spinning reel. It is in great condition, but the handle area cover (opposite the handle) seems to be stuck. I would like to switch it from right to left hand, however I can't remove said cover.

Any ideas on how to get the cap off without scratching or damaging it? I'm about to use pliers and a microfiber cloth...

Thanks

WD-40 is a terrible thing to put anywhere on your reel.

Send it to Shimano, the return time is very quick and woould most likely be free :)

wrap a thick rubber band around it and twist with all you got.

This is a good idea ^

I bought a few used stradic ci4's in the past where the previous owner torqued that cap on so tight.

Remember with it being JDM, there is not guarantee they have parts, etc, IF it needs them, and its an older reel...although there is a lot of crossover..

If it's a size that's sold in the US I doubt there is any difference at all in parts. The US and JDM version both come out of Japan as it is. I seriously wonder if they could even tell at the factory without the box and paper work. The spool size would be the only real difference if any.

I would definitely agree to send to Shimano. Esp for a reel of that $ value.

liquid wrench, but make sure you clean the reel up after using:

or send it into Shimano

I got it!

Used masking tape and vise grips. It was scary but I just needed the leverage and it came free pretty easy

I was going to suggest the tape and wrench method. That is what we would do.

Just use your belt..should grip it enought....thats what Zeebass recommends to tighten their sideplate....
