Shimano Core 100?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Is it gone forever? I loved this reel, why did Shimano discontinue it?

It has been around a while and they're on to bigger and better things like Xship, SVS Infinity, Micro gearing, etc.

since they finally added x ship and a bent handle, will we see a spool shaft that separates during casts like Daiwa and Abu have? Surely one of their patents have expired by now...

Why would they need to? That spool design doesn't offer any performance benefit from my experience. It would probably result in a decrease in performance lol.

If you like the profile, look at the Excense DC. Same form but made out of aluminum and has DC. Only downside is it is only available in a high speed ratio.

This reel has piqued my interest and is on the shortlist for this season. I'm still trying to decide if I want to stick with Shimano or try a Daiwa/Megabass...

I owned the Met MG7 within weeks of it becoming available back in 2007...it is a very versatile form factor in both JDM and USDM formats.

Try it, you will likely not be disappointed.

I'll check out the Excence. Ya I like the profile of the core more than the new metanium/curado. Just my preference.
