probably weighs 15oz...also wonder how the drag works.

Look up alvey reel or sidecast reels. Unless he find a way to eliminate line twist from casting from side then retrieve straight. It's not going anywhere.

I thought the same thing!!! Interesting concept but it looks to be in the early prototype stage and the weight will have to get down to the 11oz or 10oz mark for most freshwater anglers to even consider.cndbasshunter wrote:probably weighs 15oz...also wonder how the drag works.

Looks like Redneck engineering

The line lay on the spool would be interesting! Love guys who spend serious shed time inventing something for a problem that barely exists.
Re: New Straight Cast reel ICast 2014 from Kendra Gear
The spool flips to either side so you can cast from either the front or back of the spool and alternate which way the line twists. This would in theory reverse the twist and result in net zero. Interesting concept but lots of work to get the weight down for production.
Re: New Straight Cast reel ICast 2014 from Kendra Gear
I always understood that the bail winding the line back on the spool took out the line twist that was introduced with the cast. The theory being that the line coming off of the reel put twist into the line in one direction. When winding line back on to the spool, the bail put twist in the opposite direction and nulled the line.
This reel is overly complicated and the gearing will probably need a cover to meet OSHA requirements. This will add to weight. Who is going to help me keep track of which way I moved the spool on the last cast?

I can't fault guys for attempting to come up with something new and innovative. I'm sure if daiwa had introduced it (and yes I understand it would be better looking and engineered), people would be falling over themselves and dying to try one out. Good for them. I hope that someone at least buys the tech off them and runs with it.

I for one applaud this gentleman for coming up with something new. His explanation isn't great, but I understand where he's coming from. Even if the idea isn't marketable now, it's great that we still have people trying to innovate and bring new technology to the fishing game.

Someone put a lot of engineering into that thing. Not very practical.facelessnewsouth wrote:I for one applaud this gentleman for coming up with something new. Now if 13 fishing comes out with a castable version of their under mounted baitcaster with an SV or DC spool and a trigger sign me up.
