I'm to the point, I'd just as soon wait until ICast. Seeing all the leaks just means I have to want something that I can't have even longer.

Re: New Zillion - We want info!
Are we even going to see a new zillion? Or are they just going to bring the SS over here and use it and the Tatula to fill the gap.
Re: New Zillion - We want info!
SS would be a $400+ reel in the US. Leaves a considerable gap.MondayMonkey wrote:Are we even going to see a new zillion? Or are they just going to bring the SS over here and use it and the Tatula to fill the gap.

Re: New Zillion - We want info!
Would it really? Several JDM retailers are selling the SV for under $300 and Daiwa lists an MSRP of right around $390 (39000 yen) in Japan. Zillions retail for $320 in the US and $370-$380 (37000-38000 yen) in Japan. Seems like the SS is dead targeted for that tier. If they need to tone it down for the $320 range in the US all they would have to do is swap the SV spool out for something more traditional. They would still have the option to sell premium or Type R models by including SV spools as well. There is already a decent gap here between Tatula's and Zillions.tywithay wrote:SS would be a $400+ reel in the US. If they offer a warranty backed by Daiwa US then they would tack that cost on more than likely bringing the price up about 100$. See the Metanium for example.MondayMonkey wrote:Would it really? I wasn't part of the scene when the zillion launched why doesn't the zillion follow suit being more expensive than it's JDM counterpart?Bootytrain wrote:If they offer a warranty backed by Daiwa US then they would tack that cost on more than likely bringing the price up about 100$. Based on Shimano.JP the MSRP for the Met is 44,100 yen or $440 and the US is $420 seems like the price is virtually straight across when it comes to paying MSRP.
I think the difference you really see here is that Daiwa and Shimano keep a tight leash in the US when it comes to the Minimum Advertised Pricing while japan doesn't. This would also be part of the reason these products are almost always exclusions during sale times but are always cheaper than MSRP in Japan.
Re: New Zillion - We want info!
The Z2020 msrp is 55,000y; the US got a dumbed down version that retailed for $649. Not saying it would without a doubt be that much, but I can't see it being any less than the Japan MSRP, after adding a warranty. If it is, like you said, they'll remove the spool; that kind of defeats the entire purpose of the reel though. That SV spool makes it special.

Re: New Zillion - We want info!
If the SV spool is the only important part why not just buy an SV spool for an existing reel and save yourself $250 though.
I might be a bit confused about the "add warranty" part. Don't the JDM reels have a warranty as well? Isn't it baked into their price? So why would selling the reel in the US with a warranty be any different? It's not like they'll send a reel sold here off to Japan to have it warrantied. They'll have access to all the parts and spare reels they need here in their current warranty service departments. It shouldn't cost them any more to warranty than any other reel they sell here. After all no reel is made in the US all parts and all reels are technically imported now.

You can just buy the spool, but the only reel it will fit that rivals the weight and refinement of the SS is the Steez. It's cheaper to just buy the SS, in that case.MondayMonkey wrote:If the SV spool is the only important part why not just buy an SV spool for an existing reel and save yourself $250 though.

As far as the warranty, it costs them more because they have to keep a vast inventory of parts stateside.

Re: New Zillion - We want info!
I can see that but the only reel that more here is the Z the rest all cost the virtually the same in MSRP or less than their JDM counterparts. So it really doesn't hold true with what we've seen in the past. It'd be interesting to see how many commonly breakable parts an SS has that are interchangeable with other current offerings.
