Wacky worm gear ratio
What gear ratio are you guys using for weightless and weighted wacky worms? I like the idea of 30 to 31 IPR so I can get the bait back fast, but if i want to work the worm a bit I'm worried it will can be a bit to quick. I have two reels that haven't been assigned to anything yet, both 28 IPR, but also been looking for a reason to get the Lexa 100 6:3:1 at about 25 inches. It likely doesn't make much of a difference, just curious what you guys think and use.

Fastest I can. I use a spinning setup and it's ratio is 6.2:1

Re: Wacky worm gear ratio
I am always working wacky worms and/or weightless worms with my rod and with the slack line, so I prefer a fast reel for these applications because all I'm using the reel for is to retrieve the slack line. It also helps to catch up with fish that swim right at you after the hookset, or ones that bolt off with your worm and you're not paying attention

6.4:1.
It does not need to be 7:1 because you don't fish worm in heavy cover.

Most aren't going to admit it but when skipping docks the fish swim out before the angler is aware due to the slack line coming back to you so very fast can be very important . Always go fast unless you need power is my theory .

I fish a wacky senko in super heavy cover all the time, heavy cover has nothing to do with the ratio except pulling a fish out quick. It's all about getting the slack line in quick and getting the worm back quick for another cast. Faster the better!
Re: Wacky worm gear ratio
7.1:1 works well but I think you could easily use a 6.3:1 or a one of the new super fast gear ratios. Your working the bait with the rod on slack or semi-slack line. The reel is just taking up line. The faster ratio has the benefit of catching up to a fish that is swimming towards you or getting the bait back the boat fast after it leaves productive water.

Medium to fast. If you use circle hooks for wacky like I do then it dosen't matter. Slow is fine. But given the choice I like 6ish and higher.

The key piece of the puzzle is using circle hooks. The fish hook themselvesBladerunner808 wrote:Medium to fast. If you use circle hooks for wacky like I do then it dosen't matter. Slow is fine. But given the choice I like 6ish and higher.
