Daiwa Lexa

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Lexa

Post by watergremlin » Sat Jan 12, 2013 4:15 pm

I tried finding a review on them, but no such luck. I was thinking about getting the low gear ratio for cranking. Anyone have these out on the water yet. I'm on a budget, so the price is what got me interested.

i don't have one but several people here already have them and are loving them so far. i've handled them at bps and they seem to be well built and smooth.

I have the 6.3:1 and i really like mine. Great caster, smooth retrieve, smooth drag, and very easy to tune in. I use it for spinnerbaits, pitching and medium cranks and have had no issues or complaints so far. I think Daiwa did a great job with this series. I wouldn't hesitate buying another.

Been hearing lots of good about these reels. At that pricepoint, they could be a big seller.

I've only got the 300 size for big baits but I think it's a great reel. If you take price into consideration I'd upgrade it from "great" to " just shy of amazing". I'd say buy with confidence.

Also, there are a handful of reviews of the 300 on TWH, at least one of them from a TT member. I haven't checked but I'm sure there are at least as many(my guess would be more) of the 100 size.

I have a 100p but haven't got the chance to use it yet. Pretty excited.

have 2 300 size in the 6.3 ratio and 1 100 size in the 6.3 ratio super tough and great bang for buck can see myself getting more of these. a 100p will be next.

Drop Bronzefly (Gary) a PM. He ran a Lexa 100 through the ringer fishing inshore. He had nothing but good to say about it.

Got mt first Lexa 6.3 today it feels good nice and smooth. I tested it a little with a weightless fluke in my basement being that we got 3" of snow today. It flipped the fluke well and skipped it along the floor with no problem. I will probably pick up a 7.1 to try flipping with.

That's cause these reels are the Bomb, there is NOTHING better in this class for the $170 price range. I love mine.

very smooth when turning the handle. love the shape and size of the knobs and the 90mm length of the handle is perfect. casting distance is on par with other reels if not just slightly better with standard weight lures. with lighter lures, i've found it to be a tad fussy until you get it dialed in just right. check out the brian thrift videos on the TW website for a four-part series on fishing clear lake...he's throwing a lexa 100 and you see him stripping out light birdsnests after each cast with a weightless worm

I don't think he is stripping out birdsnest, I do the same thing with a weightless worm znd 1/4oz jigs, basically anything that isn't heavy enough to pull the line off the reel spool because you are trying to get the bait to fall vertical and if you didn't strip the line it pendulum fall rather than vertical fall.

I didn't watch the vids but I've done what smalljaw said countless times. I still do it in fact, any time I'm in deep water with a sinking bait that I want to get down. Vertical sink > pendulum for me.
