Shimano guys......

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Shimano guys......

Post by Big Al » Thu Oct 18, 2012 7:31 am

For those who have or had both, which do you prefer, Curado 100 D or Curado 50E? From some of the posts here, the 100D seems to be the better reel, but would you buy a used 100D or a new 50E if they were the same price?

Thanks AL

curado d is the new chronarch e.

it really depends on the size of reel you need. i;d go chronarch e50.

I find the 50 sized reels to be a perfect size for most LM fishing. They just feel so "handy". The Core 50 and Scorpion 1000XT are two of my favorites (same form factor as the Curado 50 -and the new Chronarch 50)

Curado 50 E and Chronarch 50 E are the same reel just different color. I would get the Curado 50 E which are still around. My reason for picking Curado 50 E is the handle that you can swap grip bushings to bearings. The Chronarch 50 E handles a machined to accept only one per grip. ](*,)

I have both and the 100D is smoother and has stayed smoother after considerable use. The 50E tends to have the same geary feeling that the 200E has. :D

The Curado E is the Chronarch E. The Curado D is a better beast than either.

I'd take the 50e over the d any day.

Although both reels have similar line capacity, the curado 100D has a larger diameter spool. To me, it feels like it does a better job of fishing the 1/4 to 3/8 oz lures than the 50E. To me, the 50E really shines when fishing less than 1/4 oz. I'm not implying that the 50E is underpowered or anything like that, it's just that the smaller spool diameter gives it a more "ultralight" feel. I personally like to fish 8lb monofilament on the 100D and 4lb on the 50E.

It all depends on what kind of shape the 100D is in

He is talking about curados the D series and E series

I don't have much experience with the 100D but I have 2 50s and love them

If it will be for soft plastics mostly, then I vote Curado D platform...in the guise of an CH MG50

If your mostly fishing soft plastics I would go with the 50E, for moving baits I prefer the 100D :D

I have both reels. I upgraded the 100D by putting a CH MG50 spool and brass gears in it. The 100D is super smooth and I would easily pick it over the 50E becasue it is smoother and more powerful. It is also a bigger reel that fits my hand better, but it is heavier.
