no new shimano reels?
no new shimano reels?
Is shimano not releasing any new reels this year besides the calcutta d? I was really disappointed in the curago g made a clicking noise on the removable bearing plate. and the daiwa ballistic i am having problems with the line hitting too low and nicking grooves where the line sits not good.

The new Calcutta D may be the only new release for 2012-2013. I am pretty sure there will be another reel to fill in the $250-$320 range for Shimano since they discontinued the Chronarch D (which is basically an aluminum Core 100). I am also guessing Shimano may release the new Antales since the Calais looks to be on the chopping block. We will know more come 2013-2014. Thats if the world doesn't end here in December 2012.

Shimano Japan has released a few new reels recently. I think I read that they will not wait for ICAST or the Osaka fishing show to release any new reels but just release them steadily as they come out.

The Core 100 and CH D frame was originally taken from the Metanium MG. It would be nice to see a new Calcutta TE GT/Conquest with a slightly different brake access, along with a new USDM Calais.Buck2thPerch wrote:The new Calcutta D may be the only new release for 2012-2013. they have a few new ones in japan, great looking stuff
Re: no new shimano reels?
I was dead set on getting the Calcutta D but getting put off by the B gear set. Hopefully the TE variant is released and I'm most likely going to wait for that. I can live without the brake access but prefer the benefit of the TE gearing. Assuming those were bigger for equivalent size to what the D offers now. Many say it's a smooth reel but not ready to compromise yet. So promising and yet a tad short to what I'm looking for.dragon1 wrote:The Core 100 and CH D frame was originally taken from the Metanium MG. The Core MG7 is the same reel from before plus cosmetic changes less the flippin switch plus a price increase.

Re: no new shimano reels?
I have seen some pretty cheep prices on e-bay on some core 100mg7's , so maybe something new will come . I doubt it but one can wish. I hope for a usdm model of that new dc core framed reel in the near future. It looks cool and not too pricey.

there is a new Shimano Essence DC and I think it's the Chronarch D with X-ship and DC
