Calcutta 201 DC or 101 DC?
I've got a Calais DC and am now lusting after the Calcutta 201DC but I am worried that getting a Calcutta 201DC will be redundant because it is so much similar in size to the Calais DC. Will a Calcutta 101DC be a better purchase? How about even a 51DC? I am just afraid that the 101DC or 51DC are too small, since where I live there are no 101 or 51 on display, so I have no idea how big or small they are. Is there any online photos or even videos which show the sizes of a 101DC or 51DC?

the first question is what do you plan on using it for

My use for it is none specific - just looking for a reel that will do everything well. Planning to pair it with a cumara reaction MH

I vote 101DC.
imo the smaller size of 101DC definitely pairs your rod better.

I would vote for the 101 DC as well. Keep in mind that there is no 101 version of the Calcutta TE DC, however. You'd need to look at the JDM Calcutta Conquest line for anything other than the 201 DC, though you'd be getting newer tech with the Japan lineup which was revamped a couple years back while the Calcutta TE DC has gone stale. The original is still great, but it is getting a little long in the tooth.

I have the Calcutta 100DC and the Cardiff 50S DC . For bass fishing (my main and only concentration lately). I prefer the 50 for it's size. Palms great and has enough line capacity (using braid) for any LM bass I will encounter.Shock N Awe wrote:My use for it is none specific - just looking for a reel that will do everything well. The 100 is noticeably larger but performs beautifully if you think you need the extra line capacity. The Shimano Calcutta DC's are probably the best "out of the box" performers I've encountered. IMO they require zero upgrades.
The qualifier here is I use braid so I can spool a lot of 20lb test compared to mono or flouro. Price also,as the Cardiff 50S DC comes with a premium price tag compared to the USDM Calcutta 100DC (which is a bargain compared to the JDM counterpart)
The difference in size between the 100 and 200 size is not as noticeable (IMO) compared to the 50 vs. 100.
