What is the best line for Core 50mg7?
I recently purchased a shimano core 50mg7 and I would like some feed back on the easiest line to use. I've tried 10# InvizX fluoro and its a little squirrly. It did pretty good with sufix mono, but, line twist, etc. Now I have 30# PP braid and will try it . I love my fluoro and would like to stay with it, so, I was thinking of maybe trying Tatsu 10#? I would like to be able to throw a 1/8oz to 3/16. 4" power worm with a 1/32oz w. Thanks Guys

15# yellow PowerPro with a 6-10 ft 10# flurocarbon leader. Buy actual leader material, not a filler spool of fluro.

Oh, Another thing guys, I put in a set of boca orange seals and after I installed them it almost seemed like the stock core bearing spun better. Should I stay with the stock core bearings or keep the O.S. in? Like I said earlier I would like to throw 1/8oz and up lures. Thanks Guys

I do have 60# Fx2 on my quantum smoke 150hpt reel with boca O.S. and my frog/flipping/pitching rod (Phenix Recon 795) and it cast like a bullet. You think I could get away with 50# on the core 50mg7? I thought maybe daiwa samurai in 20#? Thanks

I am using Suffix 832 20lb braid on one and Yo_zuri 10lb hybrid on the other. The Suffix 832 cast like a dream on this reel, I can almost not backlash it.

The stock bearings in a Core are pretty great (ABEC 5, I believe). The OS 7s will give a performance uptick...not much, IMO...but they are way easier to maintain. Hold onto the stock bearings, regardless, as I'd bet you're doing. At worst you can throw them in a cheaper Shimano.frogman1963 wrote:Oh, Another thing guys, I put in a set of boca orange seals and after I installed them it almost seemed like the stock core bearing spun better. I use PP Slick 8 #15 with flouro leaders on mine and I enjoy it a lot. I'm not smart or patient enough to use flouro...I learned baitcasting on braid so I stick with that, recognizing the potential limitations with moving baits that braid has. I can live with them.
All Cores should be have (as you're able, and if you can find them!) Yumeya 32MM spools IMO. That's a crazy good upgrade to an already great reel. You can handle all kinds of situations with it. Line capacity may be an issue for you if you're set on flouro, though.

I generally go with 12lb Sunline Sniper FC or 30lb Daiwa Samurai Braid - both are "best in class" lines as far as I'm concerned...bassninja wrote:Sunline Sniper FC - 10lb

Re: What is the best line for Core 50mg7?
This reel is very versatile. On the stock spool I've used it all kinds of braid and leader on it and on several rods.
Even the standard reel is quite capable down to 1/8oz.
I've spooled it on close to 600ft of 6lb braid and 10lb leader for inshore duties up to 30lb 832 and 60lb leader for barramundi. It has sat on rods from 610ml to 5'6"MH.
I also have an avail shallow spool for casting 1/32-1/4.
Either the avail microcast it has no brakes so really careful casting is required but avail also has magnetic brakes for it.
I have BCs in quite a few sizes but if I had to pick only one it would have to be the core and the 2 spools.
Good luck.

I really like 12# X50 FC. Anything larger in dia. will inhibit the reel's casting performance.

2x to that. I bought an Alphas Ito ai as for finesse applications. Was surprised the core casted further and lighter. With light braid and a long med-light rod I've been presenting near weightless baits to inshore fish. It has the capacity and light enough a spool to achieve both requirements. As previously stated, it's the only mg BC rated for SW use. Has enough of a range to cast 1/16-1oz providing you have the right rod and enough drag and capacity to handle bigger fish. It's only weakness is its ability to burn deeper crank baits. Not the prettiest thing out there but definitely my most versatile.5poundhooker wrote:I really like 12# X50 FC. Hi 5#, long time no talk!
Looking at TTs Exo spin review I guess our opinions were vindicated huh? I still don't get why too much capacity is a problem for spin reels. Backing always comes handy!
Cyas around.
