T3 gear swap

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

T3 gear swap

Post by smalliesteve » Wed Sep 19, 2012 6:56 pm

Has anyone checked if gears can be swapped into a T3 from another reel. I'm interested in using a T3 as a cranking reel but would like <5.5 gear ratio in it. Lefties only. 8-)

I was curious about this as well but seeing I do not have a low powered Daiwa reel to actually test this on. From taking my T3's and other Daiwa reels apart, I would have to say the reels with low powered gear + pinion that should have a good chance of fitting in the T3's are the TDZ 103's or Zillions/TDZ 100's. This will definitely be a winter question project.
