100dc for crankin

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

100dc for crankin

Post by bruce S » Sat Sep 08, 2012 6:20 pm

Is anyone using a Shimano Calcutta 100 DC on 7'6" rod for deep water cranks , I was wondering if it had enough crankin power to pull the big deep drivers in without to much stress . Thank you for the replies

Depends what you class as deep divers.I am using a 100DC on a 7'2" rod for DT 14's, SK 5XD's and similar divers to about 15/16 foot. It handles them well with little strain. However for the deepest divers (DT 20's, 6XD's, Hot Lips etc) I prefer my Chronarch D5. The 100DC can handle them but I think that a full day fishing these deep divers will be a bit exhausting. The D5 does a better job. I do not think the 100 DC would be the best choice as a dedicated reel for the deepest divers.
