Steez 103H vs. Pixy Type-R

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Steez 103H vs. Pixy Type-R

Post by zodiak311 » Mon Jul 25, 2011 9:15 am

Hi TT,
I am trying to figure out what my next finesse reel will be? I have a Steez 103H and it has been stellar, but am wondering if I should get another one, or the Pixy Type-R for weightless Senkos, drop shotting, and lite cranks. Any input is much appreciated. :big grin:

That's what I was thinking, but conisdering the fact that I can get a second hand Steez at a good price, while all the Pixy-R's are new right now...

I guess what I am trying to figure out, is if the performance difference between the two, justifies the difference in price... :-k

That's my problem. You can buy a used steez for $300-350 and have a reel that will do everything a bass guy could ask. It will cast as well as a pixy of any kind except the most extreme lowest weights and I don't throw crappie jigs to bass, much. On the other hand if you already have a few steez's then a px type r would be cool for a change of scenery.

I have a steez 100sha and 103sha and would love a new pixy but it would be real hard for me to buy a $500 real and not have a micro click spool tension. Thats one of the things that stand out to me....

can't wait for a showdown between Alphas 105 and Pixy68/Type R. I know i know, they are of different league judging from price point but am keen to know for 200 bucks less, how much less performance wise.

Honestly I don't think there can be too much difference performance-wise. I imagine the extra price comes from the jump from Alum to MG and the carbon fiber handle.

Depends on how light you want to go. I would go with the Pixy Type R since you already have a steez just for the sake of variety or just get both =P

What is the lightest thing you can throw on it?

I don't normally throw anything too light, but the other day I was throwing a 3/32 ounce jighead with a Berkley power worm and it was handling it just fine....and that was on a 7' MF Elite. I'm sure on a ML or L rod it will kick even more ass
