3/32oz and 1/16oz baitcaster

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

After reviewing some of the price points of the Pixy variants it would seem that the US Type R variant would be the best fiscal route?

On the other hand the px68 type r seems like the same size as my steez reels. Can I buy a shallow spool for a steez and get the same performance with the very light weight applications?

Pixy spools will not fit in a Steez. You could try to find a TDZ-105 spool though since that will fit. I have a 105 spool in my Steez and it performs fantastic.

If you're looking for something 'fairly cheap' you should look into the new Alphas Finesse 105.

I saw that as well. What percentage of performance does the alphas finesse custom get of the px68 type r?

I would guess they have very similar performance. The PX is just lighter and has a carbon swept handle.

BlJk,
what's the line cap of the alpha 105? that inductor isn't tapered, correct?

BTW close performance would be my guess as well. BUT I have no experience w/ either reel, only the original pixys and sols.

That fixed inductor on the alpha really should excell at light baits(think presso spool). Although probably not quite presso spool performance. I'd love to hear a head to head compare between the px68/typeR and Alphas finesse.
When my sol had a pixy spool in it, it actually outperformed the pixy w/ the same spool in distance, under certain circumstances and w/ certain baits. Why? Aluminum vs. mg frames? I've seen this mentioned in some TT reviews comparing the core mg 50 to the scorpion1000 xt.

Line cap is
8lb-100m
10lb-75m

And you're correct that the spool is not tapered. I've been using the reel a lot more and its my go-to reel right now. \:D/

same cap as the pixy too.

glad you're happy w/ it and thanks for the info. My sol went bye bye and my pixys are getting lonely, this reel sounds like a winner . But that shallow pixy spool has yet to be released :-k

LOL I was just on the KTF website like 10 min. ago looking at those and the PX68. Wish those spools were available. Super lightweight shallow finesse spools w/ fixed inductors =D> =P~

It makes a person wonder what they can do with the fixed inductor 105 spool and a very good machinist. I guess the next best thing to a KTF spool, would be the very heavily ported Revo LTX (If you like the Revo based reels).

My favorite is the 50mg. I upgraded the bearings and the drag and they handle everything but salt water. I've owned a Pixy, Pixzilla, Presso, TDZ and Aplhas ITO and the 50mg is my easy choice favorite. I can cast a 1/10 oz weight about 100 feet with a 7' light powered rod easily out casting any of my spinning set ups.

Another option would be to get an aftermarket spool. I did this with a Fuego and a IZ'E Zillion PE spool. This spool and some Abec 7 make this into a nice little cheap finesse reel. this spool holds roughly 100 yards of 6lb sunline shooter FC line.

Anyone own a steez and a pixy? Lowest I've gone with my steez
is weightless senkos. How does a steez compare to the pixy with the light stuff?

I would say for finesse fishing (under 1/4 oz) the Pixy is a better reel. The Steez is a good reel for anything above 1/4oz. For extreme finesse fishing try and find a Daiwa Presso, but expect to pay for it.
