Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Now this is like the standard for medium/finesse reels.
PS: Well, it all depends from which brand you buy.

Maybe Abu made a better worm gear and pawl for the MGX. From what I have seen in my shop, Abu has a big issue with these two parts on most Revos. The STX seems bulletproof, but I have replaced a ton of worm gears and pawls in Revo S's, SX's, and Premiers.

I've got a ton of hours on my first, new gen Premier and never had the slightest issue with the worm gear, pawl or any other part. My other 3 are equally solid. Perhaps that was the older gen reels?

5.4oz the standard? Core 50 is 5.5 and the Steez is 5.6. I'd say that puts it in pretty good company.
Are there any mainstream reels in the same category that weigh less? Could be, I'm just not aware of them.

Good luck balancing a 4.4 oz reel with any factory rod.

I think with the carbon side plates it will be more durable. as for the worm gears I have had no problems out of mine so far. And line pawls you can get a ceramic line pawl from Mike's Reel Repair for $7.00 I think that would cure any problems with it.
