Chronarch 100 Vs Chronarch D7

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Chronarch 100 Vs Chronarch D7

Post by Braith » Mon May 16, 2011 3:01 pm

Do you think that the D7 is significantly better than the old Chronarch Bantam 100? I am going to buy another baitcaster (a lefty). My old Chronarch is running like a bird and I'd be happy with a lefty that cast and retrieved as well as it. What do do you reckon?

They are both great reels, but the D7 has a smaller more palmable frame and weighs less. If you like the 100 shape and weight then maybe the 100SF would be a great reel to get. I personally like all my chronarchs, but the D7 seems more palmable with my smaller hands.

I have had all of the chronarch models to date and I like the d7 the best, because it palms very well ,smooth and has good features.

I personally believe the new D7 is by far superior to the old 100. It is weighs less, palms just as well, casts significantly better, stronger drag, (want me to go on?). The original chronarchs were great reels but are no comparison to the new generation. Check one out in a tackle shop, unless it feels completely wrong in your hands it is by far the better choice and will serve you well.

I assume you are talking about the 100a..the white one...It was a great reel for its time for sure. The 100b (silver) was a great reel too, but they added to much weight at 9.1 oz. I still have 4 or 5 of these that I throw moving baits on, as the weight doesn't bother me as much. The D7 is the best Chronach they have made to date. It is back down to 7.6 oz and there are MANY people would tell that this is their fave Shimano ever made, ahead of the Core and Calais. Also, you may want to sit on your money as their is a possibility that there is a re-design coming at ICAST. I cannot say that as fact, but I know someone who tried to order some D7s for his shop and they told him they were not available and not backorderable. :-k

I have no experience with the older version...but I can tell you the D5 and D7 are the nicest reels ive owned. Slap some ABEC 9s in there you will be one happy man.
