spinnerbait reel?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

spinnerbait reel?

Post by georgeweeber » Fri Apr 22, 2011 6:23 am

I am needing a second spinnerbait reel. I presently have one of the old skeet reese revos that I really like for this technique. I think the 6.3:1 works well for this, and I like the longer handle. I was thinking about getting another one of the old skeet reese models but was wondering what else out there might work better.

Revo premier but you still need the handle upgrade to get your wider handle.

maybe check out a curado or chronarch, lots of people find they cast spinnerbaits well into the wind...if you like a larger handle check out the revo winch....its got a lot of power and the slower gear ratio could be a nice slow rolling option for you.

I'm not much on the premier. I know a lot of you guys are and I am sure its a descent reel. I simply like the older skeet reese model better. I actually have s 2010 premier I am going to sell or trade to get the replacement.

I've had pretty good luck with my Curado e7, but if Pflueger would offer a Patriarch XT in 7:1, I'd ditch this e7 so fast it would make your head spin.

X2 on the chronarch. A revo stx aslo works well for spinnerbaits.

I have three chronarch d7s and they are great reels, just not the line capacity I need the way I fish a spinnerbait. My local lake has heavy cover and I fish 3/4 oz spinnerbaits on 25 lb flouro so I am needing a reel that will hold a good deal of 25.

Revo Toro 50 HS might fit the bill. Long handle, 200/14# line cap, 6.4 gear ratio, and it's built like a tank. Don't be deterred that's it only a 7 bearing reel its still super smooth and you can easily add 2 bearings per handle knob, which bumps it to a 10+1 bearing reel. The reel is very powerful so it might make for an awesome heavy spinnerbait reel.

TDZ 100M is a great reel for spinnerbaits but I also like the Daiwa Sol GREAT little reel for spinnerbaits, easy to palm, very light, enough line capacity for 17lb test, smooth winding, and the bid site has a lot of them.

TDZ 103M
CVZ 103s
Calcutta TE GT/Conquests 100
Calais 100A
Alphas R Edition

Depends what size spinnerbait, line size, at what depth and what cover?

I prefer the JDM Zillion 100SH that allows me to burn 3/4 oz Double Willow spinner baits for smallies with ease. I am able to slow down with smaller weighted SB as well. JMHO though.
