Reel pairing for my Kistler

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Reel pairing for my Kistler

Post by mnswany » Wed Apr 06, 2011 6:19 am

I just bought a Kistler 7' Jig and Toad rod and I was looking for some help on finding a reel to pair with it. I'm on a limited budget right now so I can't get too crazy. I was thinking about a Quantum Accurist and was wondering if that would make a good pairing or if anyone has some other cost friendly ideas.

Thanks

I have a Shamano Citica on my Kistler Jig&Toad rod for the last 4 years. No problems. You can get a Citica online for less than $100 shipped.

Limited budget of $100 or so and I say Citica-E.. If you can afford a few bucks more I'd suggest the Curado E-7...

Thanks for the suggestions, I've never really had any experiences with Okuma reels but it seems like a smokin deal. I have had good experiences with shimano in past, might be about time that I go back to them

You won't regret pairing that rod with a Curado E7. I have 2 of these rods and have both of them paired with E7s. Fantastic setup.

The citica is a very good reel and not too far behind the curado IMHO.

I would suggest the Abu Garcia Orra sx reel, for a reel in your price range. It pairs up nicely with my kistler rod.

x2

The E7 is ideal but go with the Citica E if the difference in price is a tough to swallow.

If you don't have a budget look at the Daiwa Zillion 7.1:1. If you do have a budget I like the Revo STX better than the Curado E7. But you might check out the Smoke it has been getting a lot of hype lately.

IMO, No budget=Zillion Type-R for this application... STX is a good option as well.. See that TW has them for $199 right now...
