Patriarch :(

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I was fishing a local lake and I was making a few cast and on about the fourth cast it makes this grinding sound that sounds bad! I took the spool out and look into where the spool shaft goes in and It looked fine but when you reel without the spool in it makes a sounds like theres sand or little tiny rocks in it. So yeah

hmmm...casting should never give you grinding noise like that unless the bearings are bad or it could be the Spool pin where it goes into the pinion gear. Some reel spools will slide side to side if the tension knob is not putting enough tension on the spool to keep it from moving. And during casting the spool will slide far enough to hit the pinion gear - especially on cheaper and older reels (*Cough*...Daiwa Exceller...*cough*). I would take a look at your bearings first.

I fish with just stock bearings cause im cheap....but alot of guys on here prefer to upgrade them to boca bearings (see first sponsor in the links above ^^^)....just try cleaning it up and re-lubing it, you might be surprised at the reels performance.
