Calcutta TE DC - How they holding up?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Calcutta TE DC - How they holding up?

Post by karirick » Mon Mar 28, 2011 2:16 pm

Fellas,
Just bought a like new TE DC for my MIL of all people. Was bought it 2007, but never fished. Gave her $250 for it, so great deal. How are your digital circuits holding up? Any issues. Thanks.

I don't know exactly how long I've had mine but I got the first one my favorite tackle shop got in. I've used it a lot over the years and zero problems of any kind. It's been back to Shimano twice just for a regular clean and lube and as far as I know has never needed anything replaced. Out of all my reels this would be the last one I would part with I think. Either it or my Stella FD or my Calais DC. You really got a whale of a deal on that reel. I think you will really enjoy it.

I've got a few miles of WHIRRRRRR on my 100DC as well.. Bulletproof and one of the finer reels made today IMHO.. I have toyed with the idea of getting another, but for the time being just haven't... $250 was an awesome deal-guess she likes you..??

The Conquest 50DC/51DC is not yet released... the Cardiff doesn't count in a discussion of Calcutta/Conquest reels ;)

No problems with mine. Love it for throwing topwater and cranks. Caught many wiper over 10lbs on it.
I think the drag got wet once and the drag acted up that evening but no problems since.
Sweet deal

I have a Calais 201DC that's going on 3 years, no issues so far. I even dropped it in the lake (inshore fishing) and it took about 1-2 hr's to find it before I got it back, water was around 12-15ft deep. I rinsed it with fresh water and continued fishing for the day, no issues. I did send it in to Shimano because it was submerged in saltwater for over an hour. They cleaned and lubed it, replaced two bearings and charged me around $80.00 including shipping, I had it back in less than a week. They will turn it around within two days when they get it. I just ordered a Calcutta TEC201DC and can't wait until it arrives. They are great reels and Shimano provides excellent service. :big grin:

Thanks for the replies. I actually just sold a Calais DC and never even fished it!! Hard to explain, but it was like a trophy I didn't want to get a mark on it or even use it. Stupid :( Anyways, always loved the round reels for Steelhead, which is what the Calcutta DC will be used for in my arsenal. Woud not have bought it for retail, but am very happy with what I paid. Take care fellas.

7- Steez 103H's
6- Zillions
1- Alpha-Ito
1- DC
Still would love to get my hands on a Conquest (ESP the 50)
Looks like I've got a ways yet to go... :D
