reel oil recommendation

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

What are you going to use the oil for? Spool bearings? There used to be a post with different oil viscosities but because of the crash its gone. I used to use Ardent bearing oil but it slowed down my orange seals to much so I changed to Boca high speed oil. It has a 9 centistroke or centipoise rating(viscosity ratings) and my bearings are still fast. Ofcourse this will require more frequent application of oil but I think its worth it.

I use Xtreme Reel+ because I need to apply that to some bushing handle knobs that can't be opened. :big grin:

Changed from Hot Sauce to Oust Met Oil in ABEC #7 or #9 spool bearings.
Definitely superior performance.

Yes Oust is faster then Hot Sauce but it will only last fishing 8 hour days maybe 1-2 days max, where H/S will last the week of fishing 8 hours a day. Plus H/S will keep the ceramic bearings a little smoother with less noise.

well, there's lots of choices on the market. TG's yellow Rocket fuel is excellent and can be used on bearings.
IMHO. it does not matter, the trick is the amount used. Little does good, a little less does better

hot sauce grease also stains everything its put on, I would'nt use that stuff on any reel.oust and tg's are very good for bearings, as far as grease I stick with what comes from the factory.

Yellow Rocket Fuel for heavy duty casting over many days. Good balance between viscosity and performance. Oust is OK, but doesn't last that long and can cause some bearings to be noisy (a pet hate of mine).
