Best reel for $120

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Broken record here... Citica. If you want something that is going to LAST, buy Shimano. I actually prefer the Citica over the Curado for many applications. The Curado comes in a 5:1 and a 7:1 gear ratio. Don't ask me why but they don't make it in a 6:1 or 6:3 or I'd buy em! I know everyone wants to be on the 7:1 bandwagon but I prefer the 6:1 or 6:3 gear ratio.
I recently came back to Shimano Reels for everything. I torched a bunch of reels in a little more than a year from another top manufacturer...

I have been offered a Chronarch 101A super free in better than perfect condition from a coworker for 75 bucks. Well actually he has a pair. So I can get two reels for the cost of a new curado. I am thinking about doing that and putting one of my extremes on back up duty.

Dude, jump on BOTH SFs for that price. You won't be disappointed.

both are used, but very well taken care of. no boat rash, super smooth, and they come with all of the original packaging.

The Citica, as most everyone has already said, is a great reel. I have eight of them. However, all but one of mine are already feeling "geary". They have been maintained and recently just received their second complete breakdown and cleaning but they still aren't that smooth. I have been using them exclusively for a little over a year. They are great reels but the gearing just doesn't seem to be as durable as I would like.

Of the dozens of reels (casting, spinning, and fly) I've owned over the past few years, the Citica 200e was the only one that was defective right out of the box. I bought it and a Curado e7 at the same time, and the Citica was noticeably "geary" and the drag couldn't be backed off all the way.

In that price range, I much preferred the Pflueger Asaro. I know it's not a popular choice, but I'd take one over a Citica any day.

Revo S or shimano citica would be at the top of my list.

I second that I've got 5 and have had them since they came out, never a single problem.
